It has just been reported that GreatCall Inc. will release a groundbreaking emergency-call device that can be used both at home and when on the road. The device makes use of the Verizon network and service will be available wherever Verizon has coverage.
The device, named 5Star Responder, is composed of a speaker and a microphone and can be clipped to a T-shirt or a keychain. You merely have to press the call button on the 5Star Responder in order to speak with a qualified nurse about your emergency or any alarming symptoms you may be experiencing. Pressing down on the call button for five seconds will immediately dial 911.
The 5Star Responder will be available in stores nationwide such as Sears and Wal-Mart on October 23. Selling price is at $50 while the activation fee is at $35 ($25 if you sign up online). Alternatively, the app will also become available for the iPhone on the App Store for $15. Monthly service fees still apply.
